All depression sufferers (past/present) please read
by WildHorses ini went to my dr. today because my blood pressure was really high.
156/106 and my meds weren't helping to lower it.
can you get over depression without meds?

WH,
I fought depression for 10 years. I was on everything from Prozac to Serzone. Nothing worked for me. I went to a therapist every week and was close to the end fo my rope twice. The meds screwed with my blood pressure and I could not sleep. I put on weight and my mouth felt like it was full of cotton all the time. It sucked!
My depression was caused by my circumstances. My surroundings and associates were initiating feelings of worthlessness and hopelessness.
I would never recommend that anyone stop taking their meds or stop seeing their Dr. but that is what it took for me to get well. Without the drugs clouding my thoughts and the therapist telling me how to feel and how to react to outside influence, I had to fend for myself and make choices that were my own and in my best interest. The rest of the world be damned. I had the support of Sheila and the kids and was able to drop all my old "baggage" and move on along a path of my own choice. I finaly learned how to tell people to #^@% off leave me alone. The biggest burden I carried was the guilt so bountifully provided by the WTS. When I left that behind I began to heal.
I'm not a Doctor, but I have dealt with and conquered my depression. You need to find out what works for you. Those closest to you should be aware of what you are doing and watch your behavior closely.
The sun comes out everyday, come out and enjoy it.

Jess & PR,
I just got home from work and wanted to say congratulations. I tried to post this morning but couldn't get logged on. I wish the both of you happiness and contentment, peace and long life.
I'll get a book in the mail when I get your address. We'll see if we can't "sweeten" it up a bit to make it a proper wedding gift.

So, for all you fans of big fat books (like, say, Harry Potter) ...
by dedalus inwho among you is reading east of eden, oprah's book club selection?
(because, of course, reading is no fun unless there's a huge corporate media conglomerate backing you up ...).
is it just me, or do any of you think it's strange, almost disturbing, to see a bunch of people, almost entirely pre-or-post menopausal women, waving this book over their heads, screaming with the same sort of unbridled glee exhibited on, say, a drabby-housewife-makeover episode?.

The above was just RUDE and I don't even like Oprah
Anyone that encourages anyone to read should be respected. Does it matter WHO, also she chose a classic and your stereotyping of the age base it reaches is ridiculous I have read this since I was a teen and I'm 39. My daughter loves the book and is 20?????? Have you read it or just going by something you've read.
I actually have a re-print of the first edition I bought of E-Bay. The story is wonderful as everything of Steinbeck.
The average person doesn't read enough why not read instead of questioning the motives of those that encourage it.
PS This is Sheila not Thunder oops

I have the ability to see things most people miss. I am forever seeing animals on the side of the road, items in the road like tools, money, ect. I also can tell from a distance the make and model of most any car on the road.
Pretty pathetic huh?

Welcome to the board Heather.
I'm sure someone here has gone through exactly what you are experiencing and can offer the support you need to make a clean break from the lie.

What is your most hated "platitude"?
by happyout inmine is the old "everything happens for a reason".
when i lost my daughter, i heard this so many times, i seriously thought i was going to punch the next freakin' idiot who said it.
it's just ridiculous.. i also hate the variation "god does everything for a reason".. happyout (whose teeth are still set on edge when she hears that)
